It’s the morning you woke to a letter where the return address reads “Department of Finance” The night you had corn chips for dinner It’s the weekend you canceled plans It’s a hundred degrees in the summer and that guy from your work with the pool pass moved away So we’re taking extra long showers We’re not leaving the house today It has been a terrible year It has been a terrible year But it’s not gonna stop moving forward Even if it feels like nothing’s ever gonna change, the sun’s gonna rise in the morning and you have to live anyway And I’m sorry I sunk into silence At the moment you needed someone to ease the pain But I want you to know that I miss you I just didn’t know what to say I just didn’t know what to say But I shouldn’t pretend I can be a good friend If I don’t do it the right way Ahhh, it has been a terrible year. It has been a terrible year. It has been a terrible year. It’s been a terrible year. Awoooooooooooooooooooo…

COLLAPSE! 04:40
You doing alright? Is this a bad time? I just need some company I’m hoping to find Unloading our minds Will help us from spiraling while we Watch Watch Watch it collapse. The choppers up high Push noise from the sky Disturbing our city streets From morning to night. They don’t tell us why. We want to believe we’re free. Watch Watch Watch it collapse.
3.
ACAB 04:17
I see your eyes while I’m asleep or Making coffee Running Driving I see your eyes You’re having fun in the backyard The break room Home on the couch, laughing. I see your eyes. You listen to your friends You work hard Do the dishes when it’s you’re turn You were kind And no one will ever see you again. I hear you praying It’s a nightmare That you’ll wake up That they’ll listen That your parents know you love them Can’t believe it’s happening. Oh, no one will ever see you again. No one will ever see you again. No one will ever see you again. No one will ever see you again.

Cherry blossoms on the Beltway stinkin’ in the city rain Son and father on the subway try to find their inner screen Did you hear the trash can scream? Stupid loser on his phone tried to hit me with his SUV The entitled with a hall pass killed a sleeping EMT and they set them free But I don’t want you around. I don’t want you around. I’m done with your bullshit. PIles of litter at the raceway left for someone else to clean Scatter from a brutal backlash to those kind enough to grieve as if we're the enemy. I don’t want you around. I don’t want you around. I’m done with your bullshit. I’m done with your bullshit. I’m done with your bullshit. They’re firing guns for the master race And telling us it’s to keep us safe So get the fuck out my goddamn face America is a police state Done done done with your bullshit. Done done done with your bullshit. They want us to believe That equality is SOMEHOW THE ENEMY We want you to leave. You don’t keep the peace. Just violent authority. They want us to believe That equality is SOMEHOW THE ENEMY We want you to leave. We want you to leave.

OLD COLD 03:07
It won't change a thing. It won't fix the people. It won't hold the train while you're running to catch up. It won't stop the flames. It won't board the windows. It won't tell the rain Whether or not to come. When the night gets cold and the day feels old, I'd rather be in bed It might be a while Before it feels helpful Sometimes just thinking of the sun can wake you up. It might ease the pain (sort of, a little) It might be okay To call it when you've had enoguh When the night gets cold or the day feels old I'd rather be in bed Watching the moon moves through the trees And the wind rattling the leaves, The blanket draped over our legs Oh, I'd rather be in bed with you. It won't change a thing To just close your eyelids, Roll over and forget What you've been thinking of.

I don’t have to go to work today It’s Saturday Let’s have some fun and hang out in the heat I wanna pull you off the ledge, “Get down from there! Stop listening to this exhausting world!” Don’t wanna see you wallowin’ It does nothing Get out your head and Call me on the telephone I don’t have to go to work today It’s Saturday Let’s have some fun and hang out in the heat The radio reverberates A song I know A song I hate But I don’t really mind An underscore appropriate For chances missed As the sun sets and Colors my unnecessary drive Oh yeah! Gonna space out like a rocket ship tonight Oh yeah! Gonna play games on the internet tonight Oh yeah! I don’t wanna just feel like an idiot tonight Oh yeah! I wanna feel good for a little bit I wanna feel good for a little bit I wanna feel good for a little bit The dogs all bark at 8 PM The neighbors scream The sports team wins and Fireworks explode A refund on a present grim A new week on the horizon A thousand future lazy nights at home.

CARING 05:01
I haven't written a song in a month So I'm playing the same chords again I know I need to get lost in the moment But I get lost before it begins Fingers stretching out into space Reaching as a thought slips away It's been so long since I've done what I should That I forgot what I'm supposed to do Realistic goals -- Feels amazing to set them Like shit when you don't follow through Or even make repeated attempts Yr paranoia's got you verklempt Song of the year of the century I wanna wake in a new country One without fear of my enemies Coming at me in my sleep I tried to ride the sunshine from the morning Right over the 8 PM hump Six miles later, I'm drinking a tallboy And rolling another one up Forgive yourself for not being good Chase the morning wrapped in a hood Rinse and repeat And think of anything else Tomorrow when you run along The second fence they built on Suicide Bridge I guess people just kept jumping off Even if we all understand There's people that wanna see you again There's people that wanna see you again And don't care if this fucking place is a shit hole. Song of the year of the century I wanna wake in a new country One without famine or poverty No elite Song of the year of the century Good if you're not really listening Bad at affecting reality Covid a million Dinosaur flu I'd lick the floor if I got to see you Caring makes you feel like a chump When you see someone else Who doesn't want to

When it's time to go to bed I know I don't have to feel alone 'Cause I'll be thinking of you while I sleep When it's time to go to bed I know I don't have to feel alone 'Cause you'll be waiting for me in my dreams Snowflakes floating on a tuft of Summer breezes flowing through your hair Goofin' on a neon patch of stardust Double backflips in the air When it's time to go to bed When it's time to go to bed When it's time to go to bed I know I don't have to feel alone 'Cause I'll be thinking of you while I sleep When it's time to go to bed I know I don't have to feel alone 'Cause you'll be waiting for me in my dreams Speaking in a secret stupid language No one else can understand Setting off illegal fireworks and Hiding bottles in the sand When it's time to go to bed When it's time to go to bed When it's time to go to bed I know

about

Yoooooo I have been recording stuff at home and I'm going to continue to post it here. Hope ya like it.

Please do not feel obliged to spend money on this music. I do not intend for it to be monetized. Any money that comes in through Bandcamp for these songs will be donated to charitable causes, but less money will get taken out if you just do that directly on your own - which I encourage you to do if you can afford it. And if not, it's cool.

credits

released September 15, 2020

All art, songs, and recording-type things by Jeff Rosenstock except where otherwise noted.

TRACKS 1-4:

Tracks 1 - 4 were recorded mostly in July 2020, with a little bit of August as part of a "let's make some demos this month" pact I had with Chris Farren which I delivered on a little late.

Jeremy Hunter played on COLLAPSE! and ACAB
Laura Stevenson sang on DEPT OF FINANCE, COLLAPSE! and DONE DONE DONE

We all recorded ourselves. Thanks Jeremy! Thanks Laura!

A lot of guidance in recording and mixing these was given by Jack Shirley. Thank you, Jack.

Thank you Chris Farren, Joel Hatstat, Rick Johnson, Christine Mackie, Mike Park and Bob Vielma for listening to these songs and giving me advice and notes. If everyone hates them it's your fault.

Songs, mixing, mastering and art by Jeff.

For Elijah McClain, Breonna Taylor, Ahmaud Arbery, Andres Guardado, Tamir Rice, Oluwatoyin Salau, for the countless victims of violence everywhere.

As this is being released the air in California is hazardous to breathe, the current president has repeatedly used Nazi imagery for his re-election campaign and the police are still shooting people because of the color of their skin with no signs of slowing down, despite a worldwide outcry for peace. In fact they are fighting those cries with chemical weapons deemed too brutal for conventional warfare.

Wishing you love and safety.

TRACK 5

"Fox in the Snow" is originally by Belle and Sebastian, off the record "If You're Feeling Sinister" which if you haven't heard it hooooooo boy check it out every song is perfect.

I recorded this April 25th and mixed it on April 26th.

Stefan Babcock sings backing vocals on it and recorded himself I think? Or maybe Nestor recorded him. I hope one of them tells me the answer some day.

This was originally available on a compilation that Augusta Koch put together called "DON"T STOP NOW III" which was a collection of cover songs benefiting the COVID-19 Undocumented Worker Fund.

Thank you Augusta for doing that comp and asking me to be on it, Stefan for singing on this and for, along with Chris Farren, listening to my mixes.

TRACK 6

This song was recorded in October 2020.

TRACK 7

This song was recorded in November 2020 and Kevin Higuchi played the drums on it! This song is also available on "Comp For A Cause", a benefit compilation that Dark Hall Coffee / Coranado put together to raise money for one of the raddest non-profit music & art spaces in the world TRUNK SPACE in Phoenix!!

TRACK 8

This song was recorded and mixed May 6th & 7th 2020.

"Crossing with Switchblades" is the title track on my favorite Scared of Chaka record. It was originally released on the Save Stereogum compilation on '00s cover. When I was asked to pick a song from that decade to cover, I had also considered "Trash Flavored Trash" by Blood Brothers and "Movement" by LCD Soundsystem but when I searched deep into my heart of hearts for WHAT IS THE BEST SONG OF THIS DECADE? "Crossing with Switchblades" was the clear answer even if I'm not certain it's the best song on this RECORD?

TRACK 9

Recorded November & December 2020.

Featuring Laura Stevenson on vocals and Dan Potthast on pedal steel, both of whom recorded themselves. Thank you!

TRACK 10

Recorded & mixed May 14th & 15th 2020.

This Fountains of Wayne cover originally appeared on Saving For A Custom Van, a compilation in memory of FOW's Adam Schlesinger who passed away as a result of complications from COVID-19. This collection was to benefit the Musicares COVID-19 Relief Fund.

When I heard of Adam Schlesinger's death, it hit me pretty hard. This first self-titled Fountains of Wayne record is pretty much perfect, a great display of ragged fun power-pop that's inspired me a lot as a songwriter. I'm thankful to have been on this compilation and thankful for all the music Adam made over the years.

TRACK 11

Recorded, mixed and mastered December 29th - 31st, 2020.

For MF Doom. For Toots.

Kevin plays drums in a few bands with me, I'm not sure he has anything to promote but he's got an Instagram where he plays the drums and the more followers he has the more drums he gets it's science, fool.

Massive thanks to Jack Shirley for answering many a technical question I had about a tape machine and some outboard gear I used for the first time on this project. Don't let his extreme hardcore rep fool ya, he's a sweetheart.

Thank you to Chris Farren, Ben Levin & Christine Mackie for listening to early mixes and hitting me back with advice and/or encouragement.
